ELECTROSTATIC PAINTING – INDUSTRIAL SURFACES

ELECTROSTATIC PAINTING–INDUSTRIAL SURFACES

3 Colours was engaged to paint metal containers which house power generators for Aggreko Australia.

The metal containers are similar in size and structure to shipping containers. The containers were dirty and rusted and in need of a fresh look in keeping
with Aggreko’s image. Aggreko hires these generators to other companies where they sit out in view of the public eye, so it is important that they look clean and well maintained.

Preparation

Before a fresh coat of paint could be applied, the containers needed to be treated with a rust converter and spot primed with epoxy primer. After removal of rust, salt and dirt and application of the primer, a polyurethane product called Vitrethane 630 was applied.

Polyurethane coating

Polyurethane paints such as Vitrethane 630 offer vastly superior durability and aesthetics to most other types of paint. They should be considered in all cases where long-term protection of the substrate is important, and significantly lower maintenance requirements are desired.

Finished product

Our team of professional painters are trained and experienced with this special type of paint application, ensuring a professional and flawless finish every time, with minimal waste.

The finished product was a clean, rust-free and professional looking power generator, ready to be hired out to Aggreko’s clients. The difference in appearance was substantial. The fresh coat of paint significantly improved the presentation of the container, enhancing the Aggreko logo.

Industrial containers and other industrial surfaces can be electrostatically painted to give a new and professional appearance. Electrostatic coatings are hard- wearing in harsh environments due to the use of polyurethane paint.

Benefits of using electrostatic spray painting over other applications include:

  • paint savings of up to 30%
  • faster application times due to a very high transfer efficiency and wraparound effect
  • better quality of coat
  • totally consistent layer thickness
  • perfect coverage of angles
  • protection of the environment
  • reduction of VOC emission level
