3 Colours was contracted to work on a dilapidated unit block in Kirribilli, one of Sydney’s most established and affluent neighbourhoods. Nine units underwent a transformation to a contemporary look while retaining the elegance of the building’s Art Deco heritage
A STUNNING LOUNGE AREA
When our painters inspected the property, they found exterior and interior elements that needed substantial repair and preparation prior to painting. This included flaking walls and ceilings, cracked timber sash windows and mould on the exterior brickwork.
THE INSIDE PROCESS
Interior walls and ceilings were washed down, primed and finished with two coats of Dulux Wash n Wear Low Sheen. In one unit, smoke-stained walls had turned a murky yellow, requiring immediate attention. Zinsser B-I-N, a primer and sealer stain blocker, was applied to the walls before application of two coats of fresh white paint.
ON THE OUTSIDE
Mould and flaking paint were removed from exterior brick work prior to sealing of the bare surfaces. Old, flaking paint was removed from restorable timber sash windows, which were then primed, patched, sanded, gapped and finished with two coats of Dulux Aquanamel Full Gloss.
TO FINISH OFF
For the main staircase, two clear coats of varnish brought out the lustre of the original timber. Special treatment was given to the internal fire staircase with the application of a sealer and two coats of white paint, while the steps received two coats of non-slip Jet Dry.
After three months of hard work and meticulous attention to detail, the results were spectacular. The fresh white painted walls and ceilings made the apartments look brand new and brought light into the once dark, gloomy rooms. The building owners were delighted with the enhanced market value of their property.
